Just a short post, firstly once again thanking you all for subscribing, I am truly humbled. Next to say that ahead of our Holy Father’s Apostolic Journey to Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Timor-Leste and Singapore, which begins on Monday, tomorrow’s newsletter will look at the Church in East Timor, from the arrival of Christianity with Portuguese merchants, the faith under Portuguese colonial rule, independence from Portugal, the Church during the invasion and annexation by Muslim-majority Indonesia, the bloody fight for independence, and the clerical sexual abuse scandal that rocked the country, that led to a national hero of the country’s independence movement to flee the country.
